Gran Canaria – Poema del Mar Aquarium

We’ll embark on a ferry journey from Tenerife to Gran Canaria, courtesy of Fred Olsen Express, ensuring a smooth and efficient voyage.

Upon arrival at Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete, our first destination will be the historic district of Vegueta. Here, we’ll embark on a guided walking tour, delving into the area’s rich cultural heritage and exploring its captivating streets.

After our exploration of Vegueta, we’ll venture to the Poema del Mar Aquarium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This remarkable attraction, inaugurated on December 17, 2017, offers an immersive experience into nature’s wonders across three distinct environments: jungle, beach coral reef, and deep ocean. Spanning 12,000 square meters, the aquarium showcases 35 marine and freshwater ecosystems from around the globe. Paying homage to the Canarian artist Néstor de la Torre, the aquarium features innovative architectural design, including the world’s largest curved glass—a 140-ton acrylic panel. Visitors can marvel at approximately 350 species from 35 ecosystems, including sharks, piranhas, freshwater rays, crocodiles, and seahorses.

Our final stop will be the Arehucas distilleries, where we’ll uncover the secrets behind the craftsmanship of their renowned rums. This immersive experience will take us on a journey through history and tradition, offering insights into the art of rum-making at one of Europe’s oldest rum cellars. With 4,308 American oak barrels, some bearing the signatures of famous personalities, we’ll learn about the intricate process of rum production and indulge in a tasting session of rums and liqueurs, leaving a delightful taste lingering on our palates.

Following this enriching experience, we’ll return to Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete to board the ferry back to Tenerife.
